Silvia Salinas Blemker, Ph.D. is co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Springbok Analytics, a company commercializing image-based muscle analytics AI technology for many applications from sports medicine to neuromuscular diseases. Springbok has partnered with FSHD Global to provide state-of-the-art imaging assessments of muscles throughout the whole body as part of the FSHD Global Registry Project. Springbok has also pioneered the development of an FSHD disease progression model that aims to accelerate FSHD clinical trials.
Silvia led the initial scientific research that laid the foundation for the Springbok technology and continues to lead research and development at Springbok. Silvia also holds an endowed professorship in the Biomedical Engineering department at the University of Virginia in the US. Her lab at UVa develops advanced, next-generation computational and experimental techniques to study skeletal muscle biomechanics and physiology, and they work across a range of applications including speech disorders, vision impairments, aging, muscular dystrophies, and human performance. Prior to joining UVa, she obtained her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University and her Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University. Silvia is a fellow of the American Society of Biomechanics and the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineers.
