In this difficult and trying period, things are quickly changing as we move to combat the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19). As a medical research charity, we are only too aware of the significance of the current situation. Our first and foremost hope is that you and your families are safe and well.
As many of you now know, the 2020 Sydney Chocolate Ball which was due to be held on Saturday 9 May 2020 at The Star Event Centre has been postponed. Each year the Foundation relies on the Sydney Chocolate Ball to fund our mission to find a cure for FSHD. The decision to postpone this year’s Ball will put severe constraint on the Foundations ability to fund world class medical research, education and FSHD biotech, as we pave the way towards clinical trials for this debilitating disease.
COVID-19 will have a major effect not only on our Foundation, but on those living with FSHD. People with FSHD have an impaired immune system and in addition to that have reduced breathing capacity and lung function. Unfortunately, many people with FSHD will end up in hospital and several face a much higher possibility of dying because of this virus.
Historically 100% of all tax-deductible cash donations have funded medical research. As we hope to maintain this proud point, we are pleased to launch:
This is an amazing online platform that will incorporate the many fundraising initiatives that we typically hold at the Ball, including our renowned silent auction, raffles and activations. Over the coming months, you’ll have an opportunity to bid on some amazing prizes and continue to help support the Foundation’s fundraising efforts.
Sydney Chocolate Ball goes Digital will be launched on Friday the 3rd of April, with new prizes, activation’s and raffles being added over a 2 month period.
WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO SHARE THIS INITIATIVE WITH YOUR FAMILY, FRIENDS, NETWORK, COLLEAGUES AND IN PARTICULAR FOR THOSE PLANNING TO ATTEND THE BALL, TO YOUR PROPOSED GUESTS!
In response to the current situation, our Founder and Chairman, Mr Bill Moss AO, along with FSHD Global Patron and restauranteur, Luke Mangan OAM have kindly sent you this message.
