Dr Fiona Martin

Dr. Fiona Martin is a registered Educational and Developmental Psychologist and former Federal Member of Parliament. Dr. Martin has 20 years of clinical and research experience, 13 years of commercial experience, and has a long standing interest in policy development and advocacy. Dr. Martin is passionate about improving the health outcomes of Australians through evidence based clinical practice, advocacy and reform. In the past she has advocated for improving children’s health, education and safety, and increased the awareness of a range of health conditions and disabilities. Her greatest achievements include establishing a successful mental health clinic, chairing the first ever Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Committee in the Federal Parliament and setting up the Parliamentary Friendship Group for FSHD. During her time in Federal Parliament she worked across political party lines to achieve good outcomes on important issues. Dr. Martin joined our Board of Directors in 2022 and will use her clinical and research background, commercial skills and experience of working in government to advocate for people living with FSHD. She is focused on improving the time it takes to screen and assess for FSHD in Australia and to address the mental health impact of living with FSHD.
